Raytheon Company is donating $100,000 and providing employee volunteers to Habitat for Humanity of Washington, D.C. to build a home for a veteran in the southeast neighborhood of the District.
“Raytheon is dedicated to making a difference in the communities where our employees live, work and serve,” said Dave Wajsgras, president of Raytheon’s Intelligence, Information and Services business. “Our company provides solutions to help our service men and women complete their missions and return home safely. So it’s especially fitting that we’re helping build a new home for one of our veterans.”
“We offer a hand up, not a handout,” said Susanne Slater, President and CEO of DC Habitat. “DC Habitat builds affordable homes in partnership with qualified buyers in need of safe, decent housing. Homeownership is an important path from poverty to the middle class. Our studies, among many others, have shown that a clean, decent, affordable house provides better health, improvements in educational performance and job prospects, and a sense of dignity and pride for families with enhanced financial stability over the long term. With the financial and hands-on support of incredible sponsors, like Raytheon, we’re able to sell our volunteer-built homes at no profit.”
DC Habitat will identify the future homeowners of the home built with the Raytheon gift.
