Home is the Key, Habitat for Humanity International’s national cause campaign, aims to educate, advocate for, and support additional families in building stronger foundations for the future by providing and preserving affordable homeownership opportunities.
While we are best known for building and selling affordable homes, we do so much more to address the diverse housing needs across our region. In addition to creating affordable homeownership opportunities, we provide no-cost home repairs, aging in place support, and homeowner education. This April, can support DC & Northern Virginia families in need of safe, decent, and affordable housing by:
- Making a donation to Habitat DC-NOVA
- Shopping at the ReStore and rounding up at the register
In 2023, we had three families became purchase their Habitat home in Alexandria, VA. We invite you to watch the dedication for our Groveton homes and hear firsthand from these families about their journey to becoming Habitat homeowners and their bright hopes for what the future holds.

Shelter is not a privilege – it’s a need. Decent, affordable housing plays a key role in a family’s education, health, wealth and well-being. However, not every household has the same opportunities to succeed. - Many families have been locked out for too long
Homeownership is a key driver of American household wealth. Yet, structural inequality in the U.S. housing market has made the Black-white and Latino-white homeownership gaps wider than they were in the 1960’s. - Join Habitat in creating inclusive communities
Support Habitat’s affordable housing work through Home is the Key, proceeds of which will support diversity, equity and inclusion programs, such as the Advancing Black Homeownership initiative and volunteerism in communities across the U.S.
