What is the Habitat ReStore?

Habitat ReStores are discount home improvement stores and donation centers operated by Habitat for Humanity across the county. Habitat DC-NOVA operates ReStores in Alexandria, Chantilly, and Herndon. ReStores are open the public and offer low-cost building supplies, furniture, and home furnishings. Open Monday through Saturday, these stores serve as a valuable resource for affordable home improvement solutions.

The ReStore supports Habitat DC-NOVA’s mission to support DC & NOVA families in building a stronger foundation for their future through affordable homeownership opportunities.

How your donations make a difference

Donations from the public help fill our ReStore locations with treasures for shoppers to purchase. The proceeds from these sales go directly to Habitat DC-NOVA, allowing us to continue our work of building and renovating homes and proving home repairs to older adults in our communities.

Additionally, by giving your tax-deductible donations a second life, our ReStores actively help reduce landfill waste each year. Your contributions not only support affordable homeownership but also promote environmental sustainability!

What items can you donate?

We accept new and gently used appliances, furniture, building materials, household goods, and more from individuals and companies. All donated items must be in clean, working, and sellable condition. However, there are certain items we cannot accept due to state and local health regulations, such as clothing, mattresses, bedding, and stained or torn upholstered furniture.

You can choose to drop off your donations or schedule a pick-up!

Volunteer opportunities at ReStores

Volunteers play a crucial role at our ReStores by helping to accept donations, organize inventory, assist customers, fix and repair furniture, and create or improve displays.

There is ample opportunity to support our ReStores and we welcome both short-term volunteers and those looking to commit to a regular, long-term schedule. Depending on your interest and availability, there is a role for everyone that is both rewarding and fun!
