Celebrating Two Groundbreakings

This fall, we celebrated groundbreaking of two of our projects alongside our partners, community members, and supporters. These events represented more than just the beginning of construction—they showed the power of partnership and the commitment to making our communities more inclusive through affordable homeownership.

Glebe View Townhomes
On September 28th, we gathered with Fairfax Presbyterian Church, Homestretch, and HomeAid National Capital Region to break ground on the Glebe View Townhomes in the City of Fairfax. This project, our first in the City of Fairfax, highlights the power of collaboration between nonprofits, faith communities, and businesses like Drees Homes and Van Metre Companies. When completed, Glebe View will provide 10 families with a safe, stable place to call home. Representative Gerry Connolly, Mayor Catherine Read, and other local officials joined us to celebrate what these homes represent – the power of community and commitment to make our region a place where families can live and thrive.

Reeves Farmhouse
On October 15th, we were honored to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Reeves Farmhouse restoration with L’Arche of Greater Washington and HomeAid National Capital Region. With support from Arlington County and Toll Brothers, this historic project will restore the farmhouse’s exterior and renovate the interior to create a warm, supportive home for L’Arche residents and caregivers. Once complete, Reeves Farmhouse will offer space for up to four residents and 1-2 caregivers to build a secure place to build a community and their future. Construction is now underway, and we’re excited to keep our community updated on this project!

Giving Tuesday on December 3rd!

This Giving Tuesday, we invite you to join us in supporting a cause that incredibly meaningful. Phil’s House is more than just a fundraiser; it’s a tribute to a beloved member of his community—Phil Savarie. Phil was a devoted husband, a loving father, and friend to so many who left a legacy of kindness when he passed away. Funds from Phil’s House will support  the building of The Glebe View Townhomes – 10 townhomes in the City of Fairfax.

With the outpouring of support from Phil’s friends, family, and community, they are almost at their goal. Now, we’re calling on our generous community to join us in honoring Phil by surpassing this goal and ensuring Phil’s legacy will continue his ideals in building more welcoming and supportive communities.

Partner Highlight: Solution Street

Solution Street is a software consulting company based in Herndon, Virginia. Each year their employees nominate and vote to select a nonprofit organization to champion and fundraise for the year. For 2024, they have selected Habitat for Humanity DC-NOVA!

Cristina Little, Recruiting Team Member at Solution Street, shared “We are looking forward to volunteering with the Habitat ReStores this year and organizing a build day. In terms of fundraising, we like to organize both online and in-person activities throughout the year such as art nights or group games for various sporting events like the Super Bowl and March Madness. Our biggest fundraising event coming up this year that is open to the public is our Annual Golf Tournament on Friday, September 13th, 2024 at Herndon Centennial Golf Course. All funds raised from the tournament will be matched by Solution Street and donated to Habitat for Humanity DC-NOVA. If you are interested in registering a group of 4 to play in the tournament (or being a sponsor) contact Cristina Little for more information: clittle@solutionstreet.com . We would love to have you there!”

Join us at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library in NW DC on Thursday, March 14 at 5:45pm for our next Habitat Young Professionals event – Habitat 101! This event – for members and prospective members alike – will orient you to Habitat Young Professionals and Habitat and answer your questions about supporting local affordable housing. Go to: Groveton Home Dedication | NAP Credits | Homeownership Opportunity | Giving Tuesday | Van Metre

We are thrilled to announce the re-launch of our quarterly e-newsletter, The Blueprint! Get ready to receive the latest updates on exciting happenings at Habitat DC-NOVA and opportunities for you to get involved!

Groveton Home Dedication

On Saturday, October 21st, we joined Stacy and her son Khalil (pictured left), Solomon and Sara, and Ananiya and Rahel to cut the ribbon on their recently completed Habitat homes! The three families are in the process of purchasing their homes and will move in this fall.

It was deeply moving to hear from these families about their experience in the Habitat program and excitement about their new homes. We also heard from Susanne Slater, CEO & President of Habitat for Humanity of Washington, D.C. & Northern Virginia, Ayanna Jones, DEI Engagement Sr. at Freddie Mac, Robert Lazaro, Executive Director at Northern Virginia Regional Commission, and Amelie Rives, CEO at the Virginia Statewide Community Land Trust. You can view the event recording below.

We could not have built these homes without the support of our donors, partners, volunteers, and the community at large. On behalf of the families and all of us at Habitat DC-NOVA, thank you!
